How to repair the damaged fiberglass furniture?

When repairing the fiberglass furniture, first remove the damaged parts. If it is a steel plate part, it should be shaped first, descaled, cleaned and dried. If it is plastic, restore it by gluing or hot welding, regardless of the strength, then clean it, let it dry, and start repairing.

1.First cut the glass fiber cloth according to the rough shape of the damaged part,it should be slightly larger than the damaged part, and then remove the wax，you can also remove the wax first and then cut it. Under amateur conditions, you can use the baking method to remove the wax. Find a 500-1000W electric stove, put the glass cloth on it and bake it until there is no smoke, bake in a single layer, do not fold.

2. After the glass cloth is prepared, the glue can be prepared. There are many formulas for the glue. In amateur conditions, epoxy resin and polyamine resin are generally used in a ratio of 1:1. The characteristics of this formula of FRP are that the ratio requirements are not strict, the curing time is long, and the longer curing time can obtain a leisurely manipulation time .Some formulas have a curing time of only 30 minutes, which will catch beginners by surprise. Pour the resin into a wide-mouthed container at a ratio of 1:1, and stir well with a stick.

If it feels too thick when stirring, add some thinner or acetone to dilute. The consistency is generally better to lift the stick without drawing. Be sure to stir evenly. Don’t make too much at one time. It’s better to use up just enough. If the estimate is not accurate, it’s better to use less than more, because the prepared glue will cure by itself after a period of time, resulting in waste.

3. After the glue is prepared, you can start pasting work. First use a hard bristles brush to brush a layer of glue on the inner surface of the work-piece, then press the cut glass cloth on the glue surface, press lightly with the brush to make it close and let the glue solution penetrates the glass cloth.After the first layer of glass cloth penetrates, brush the second layer of glue, and stick the second layer of glass cloth.

Installation space should be considered when pasting, Otherwise, it will be troublesome if it is too thick when install. After pasting, you can find a safe place to let it cure naturally, but it takes a long time.Depending on the temperature, it takes 2-7 days, the higher the temperature, the shorter the curing time. If possible, it can be placed in an industrial oven or baking varnish bake at 120 degrees in the room for 2-4 hours.

It can also be placed in a place with a higher temperature to accelerate curing, but it must not be baked with an open flame. After it solidifies, trim and polish the burr, open the hole according to the position and size of the original hole, fill and scrape putty, polish and spray paint on the place that affects the appearance, and the FRP repair is completed.
